The Weiden + Kennedy advertising agency/creative firm holds a program where they select 12 applicants from all over the country to fly to their headquarters in Portland, OR. Weiden + Kennedy has offices in New York, Amsterdam, Tokyo, London, and is the agency that does advertising for clients like Nike, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, etc. Kelly was lucky enough to get chosen, and he spent the weekend speaking with Creative Directors, touring the offices in downtown Portland, and had brunch with founder Dan Weiden. It was a great experience, and he made some great friends. The idea was to participate in an educational program for 12 months, where a handpicked crew of 12 people work within the walls of the Weiden + Kennedy offices. It was a very difficult decision, but we decided to stay right here in San Juan Capistrano until Rachelle has the baby. The W+K12 school is a very involved (and expensive) program, and we decided it was best to not return to starving student status right now, as Kelly can’t work while in the program. Kelly was pretty stressed over the decision, but we are lucky he had the opportunity. Funnier story: Kelly will have to tell you what he submitted to Weiden + Kennedy to get accepted.
